Research Ethics Committee (REC)
Given the rapid advancement of medical sciences and the growing quality and quantity of research in this field, along with the need to uphold religious, legal, and ethical standards, the implementation of studies—particularly those involving human subjects and data collection—has raised concerns about potential harm and exploitation. In response, the Research Ethics Committee (REC) seeks to prevent the neglect of ethical standards in research design and execution, as well as the unauthorized use of medical research data.
Consequently, ethics committees have been formed at Iranian medical universities to carry out responsibilities such as ensuring the application of ethical principles, safeguarding human subjects’ data, and incorporating expert perspectives from various biological fields.
The REC at Ardabil University of Medical Sciences was established in alignment with the regulations of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Its mission is to uphold the dignity, rights, health, and safety of all stakeholders—including sponsors, researchers, study personnel, and participants—while ensuring fairness in the distribution of research benefits and burdens.
